It's very important to know how to submit articles with your keywords, but even before writing any articles at all, it's essential to find the right keywords.
After all, you can be an expert at creating resource boxes and writing articles that contain your keyphrases, but if they are not the right phrases, then your efforts are not going to pay off in the way you'd like.
One common mistake is to use keywords that are very general, non-specific one-word keywords in your article submission. For example, suppose your website is selling art supplies, and you are using the following words to link through to your site:
*art
*artist
*painting
These very general one-word phrases will be very hard to rank for and will not be very helpful to you.
Instead, you should be looking for specific phrases that describe what your website is about. For a website that sells art supplies, you might use phrases such as:
*buy easels
*buy acrylic paints
*buy oil paints
These are the types of phrases that potential customers for a site that sells art supplies may be typing into Google. These are the types of phrases that you will be trying to determine for your own website--words that your customers might use to search for a site such as yours.
Then, after you find the keywords that are specific to your website, you can use them in your article submissions to link back to your site. Specifically, you can use your keywords as the anchor text in your HTML resource box, and that anchor text will form the link that goes to your website.
Something to be careful about though: When you link specific phrases to your website, it sends a strong message to Google about what your website is about. That is a good thing, but you need to be careful not to overdo it. You would NOT want to use the same keyphrase in each article--be sure to alternate the words that you use as anchor text.
Your Main Keywords Are Usually 2-3 Words Long
There are different types of keywords, but the ones that you want your website to get a high ranking for are your main ones. You will not usually see a one word keyword phrase--most often it is two to three words long.
When you're searching for the right keywords to help your website get a better ranking in Google, you are doing more than just coming up with general words related to your overall topic off the top of your head.
What you really want to do is some definite research where you can see the number of searches that are done for specific phrases and how many websites are already satisfying searches for that phrase. Your ultimate goal is to find specific phrases (phrases that are 2-3 words long for your website) that have a high number of searches each month but with relatively few sites who are already competing for that particular term.
